December 2016

Chennai and surrounding areas were devastated by Verda cyclone. Maithri volunteers teamed with other NGOs and helped families in and around 14 villages. They distributed rice, dhal and blankets to families.

The Founder-trustee, Mr. Shreedhar Rajaram was the chief guest for the annual celebration of Maithri Vidya Kendram, Chennai. The event was filled with music and dance performances by the students. Dr. Bhagavathi Yerramilli, the Founder Trustee/Principal honored Mr. Shreedhar and the event was attended by students, parents and well-wishers.

November 2016

November saw birthday of founder trustee celebrated in a small way and a talk was arranged on "Environmental Awareness and Usage of Plastic".

Festival of lights: Deepavalli was celebrated by the students. The students emphasized on noise pollution and garbage cleaning.

October 2016

Maithri tuition center had 'Golu' (dolls display) for nine days during Navarathri festival. The best creative arrangement was made by the 11th standard students and won the first prize while the 12th students won academic achievers award.

In the last week of October, Maithri volunteers took part in a large inter-school painting competition held in Nandanam, Chennai

On Oct 16, a fund-raising event "Sangamam" supporting "differently-abled" children at Maithri Charitable Trust, India was held at Frisco discovery Center, Frisco, TX. A musical extravaganza including a vocal treat by budding vocalist Kaavya Venkat.

September 2016

On 3rd Sep, Maithri students (twenty) along with founder trustee, went in a group to Tiruthani (about 90 miles from Chennai) to attend Maithri Rupesh Kumar's wedding reception. Rupesh Kumar came up in life in a hard way and Maithri played an important role in his life and supported him to become an engineering graduate currently.working in a software company. Rupesh helps Maithri in very many ways. Maithri wishes him a happy married life.

Maithri's ardent student Gopinath lost his father Masilamami on 21st of this month. Many of Maithri's fellow students and volunteers went to Gopi's village, a few miles away from the city of Chennai primarily to support Gopinath at this difficult time. Maithri primarily whim the required emotional and financial support.

August 2016

On 7th Aug, six students and six volunteers headed by founder trustee Sridhar went to Kalanjiyam trust in the outskirts of Chennai city. Maithri participated in the distributions of fees by checks and bi-cycles to deserving students of the local villages. Maithri gave school fees to 26 students Maithri founder and Gopinath, former student and present volunteer of Maithri spoke about the kind heartedness of the trust and duties that students could render for the continuation of such good work and sustenance of the trust activities. All had lunch and mixed with senior donors of Kalanjiyam, Mr. and Mrs. Ramakrishnan and Vimala Ramakrishnan.

On Aug 15, Independence Day, Maithri went to Pallikaranai, Chennai and hoisted the tri color flag, followed by speeches and distribution of shoes and sandals to 125 students (costing Rs. 78,000/-). All students and volunteers students were very joyful and enjoyed their new foot wear. Thanks to Mrs. Arsheen and Rajkumar for making these footwear available to these deserving students.

On 20th Aug, Maithri went on its annual visit to Sri Ramana Vidyalaya, Chennai. The very deserving students received school fees from Maithri. The top scoring students and their parents interacted happily with Founder trustee of Maithri. Maithri left with a promise to hold a dental camp in November 2016 (costing Rs.100,000/-).

July 2016

Early this month, Ms. Shyamala, a past student and current volunteer of Maithri was sent to Ireland for a brief period for official work. Maithri congratulates Shyamala and wishes many more trips abroad that provides exposure officially and socially to Maithri students. Shyamala completed until her Engineering degree under Maithri's umbrella and continues to serve as a volunteer.

On 23rd of this month, Maithri accompanied the donor parents and their son to celebrate the son's birthday in an NGO called Kakkum Karangal in West Mambalam, Chennai. The donors and Maithri volunteers played with inmates for thirty minutes. They also visited Maithri tuition center and enjoyed by mixing with students of all ages. They gave away pens, pencils, erasers and chocolates to students in the tuition center. They were very happy and thanked the head of tuition center and the founder trustee of Maithri for making the day special and joyous.

Jayashree got her new sewing machine from Maithri as her old machine and other materials were washed away by 2015 Chennai floods. She has sickly husband and a girl child (LKG) and she is the bread winner with stitching ability. Maithri bought a new Merritt machine for Rs 9600/-and wishes her best of future. Her daughter is also been sponsored by Maithri

June 2016

The Sauquet family of Marc Sauquet Foundation, Spain visited Maithri on 8th June. They had an excellent time with the 15 students they sponsor. The family interacted with every student individually and Mariana, one of the trustees of this foundation addressed them as to how this financial aid help them in their life stream and show to the world their true identity in service nature inculcated by Maithri and its founder and trustees.

Our beloved friend, Mr. Krishnamurthy, head of Handicare International, Canada passed away suddenly in Mount Kailās. He was 71 years and a great supporter of Maithri and was associated for more than 15 years. Maithri extends their heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Sulochana Krishnamurthy and family and pray to Almighty to provide strength for them to bear this sudden demise.

May 2016

Maithri has come out with 100% pass for +2 and 10th grade for the 2015-2016 academic year.

The top 3 scorers in +2 are Srivaishnavi, Alagumalai Sundaram and Gayatri.

The top 3 scorers in 10th grade are Tamilselvam, Divya Keerthana and Sriman Saii.

RKM Girls High School (Sarada Vidyalaya) also acheived 100% pass results for their +2 students. The school was supported post floods by SOCAL through Maithri. The 3 toppers from RKM Girls High School (Sarada Vidyalaya) are Selva Lakshmi, Divya and Keerthana.

April 2016

Founder of Maithri Trust, Shreedhar received the vocational award from Rotary Club of Chennai, Vellacherry on 6th of this month. Award was presented by the Chief Guest, Mr. N. Ram, Editor, The Hindu in the Chennai Race Club hall, Guindy on April 6th.

This financial year has been successfully completed. Thanks to all the sponsoring, overseas, funding organizations, Indian corporate and individuals and a special thanks to Mr Puro for enabling prompt fund transfers from Jana Seva Inc. to Maithri.

March 2016

This month started with mock exams and extra hours of reexamining selected questions for all students as they approach their final annual exams.

Neelamegam's story and service has been recognized by Maithri. Neelamegam a fisherman by profession lost all his belongings in Chennai floods but this brave and generous person rescued nearly 50 people during the floods by his boat at no cost; including a pregnant lady who was at her advance stage of pregnancy. His boat was heavily damaged due to rowing the boat in turbulent water and obstructions and hindrances in the roads. Maithri feels proud in sponsoring his daughter, Priya's school fees, books and other study materials, as Priya lost her books and clothes in the floods. Maithri provided essential medicines for Priya and her family while they are trying to restore their boat, home and regain their livelihood.

On 12th Maithri joined with Sukruthi Social Foundation's 10th year celebration that was highlighted with music by special students. Congratulations SSF.

February 2016

As part of our continuing flood relief and rehab work, we donated three ECG equipment and three Pulse oxymeters costing Rs.5.50 lacs (550,000) to Public Health Centre. Funds were raised by Southern California Tamil Association (SOCAL) and ably coordinated for this noble cause by Maithri Educational Trust and Guindy 1975 team.

Maithri also donated four DELL desktops with UPS, one ACER laptop, Ahuja Public Address and audio system, and 50 twin desks and 300 sets of stitched uniforms. The funds were raised by SOCAL and coordinated by Guindy 1975 team.

On Feb 28, all XII and X students were taken to a temple and then to a relaxation spot where the students could unwind before the exam fever grips them. A total of 200 students came for this trip. They were all provided with food and transport. The students received a gift-kit comprised of writing materials useful for exam. The sponsorer for food and kits prefers to be incognito.

January 2016

A Very Happy New Year to one and all!

2016 began with mixed emotions: resilience and increased acceptance and maturity for Chennaites. Maithri continued with relief work initially and soon moved over to rehabilitation work.

On 6th, along with Guindy Engg '75 team, Maithri gave away 100 sets of uniforms as the first segment of three hundred (assured) along with notebooks, guide-books etc. for students of RKM boys high school, T.Nagar, Chennai. H.H.Swamiji of Sri Ramakrishna Math presided over these distributions. Founder, Trustee of Maithri and a member of Guindy 75, spoke on the efforts of students in the present times and how they can help in future. Thanks to the large-hearted people supporting Maithri's cause in various capacities. Swamiji thanked the donors and described the food drive that was conducted during the early flood period and the efforts and support of the volunteers. He lauded the dedication of volunteers and the program ended with the National Anthem.

On 7th, Maithri has given cheque for Chennai IIT Alumni association. Mr. Mangaladorai head of the association collected the cheque for the relief work they have done, "NGO Chennai 123" also received a good amount for disability Rights after the Chennai flood relief in providing mobility aids. This cheque disbursement to these two organizations has been entrusted to Maithri by HandiCare International, Canada.

On 10th, volunteers and organizations who worked hard and long in the recent floods in Chennai were recognized and Founder Trustee Shreedhar of Maithri was awarded by Food Bank: SNEHA and film artist Mr. Krishnamurthy (Kitty) gave away the award.

Finally this month Maithri went to Sri Saradha Model HSS, T.Nagar, Chennai and distributed uniforms for the affected girl students. These students were literally washing one set daily to wear for the next day. One hundred out of 300 (promised) were given to the students. The Head Mistress with meticulous care distributed the health materials to the students and elaborated on how these materials would provide better hygiene.

We end the month on a sad note. Maithri lost two long-time Maithri supporters 'Vanathi Ayya': Thirunavukarasu Avargal and Mr. Kannan of Mylapore, Chennai who passed on this month. May their souls 'Rest in Peace'.
