December 2017

On Dec. 16th Maithri conducted an inter school competition. The students were classified into three groups based on age. The competition was mainly focused on reciting 'Thirupaavai' and 'Thiruvampavai' (famous for the tamil month of 'margazhi'. The first two prizes went to Ahobila-mutt Secondary school, West Mambalam, and the third one to Maithri student. The participated 50 students received books, silver lamp and food. Two experts in this field participated as judges. Maithri thanks all those who were responsible for making this year, 2017 a success and hoping to make expanded services in the field of education and health to the students and elders.

November 2017

November 14 is Children's day which was celebrated. Students spoke on cleanliness, environmental pollution, discipline in vehicular traffic, strict law to curb bad driving. Students discussed about speed and drunk driving that leads to death of innocent people. The young students hoped to work towards a future of "safe driving" and "safe roads".

October 2017

On October 11, the founder Trustee Mr. Shreedhar was invited for a book release in Loyola Institute of Business Management (LIBA). The book is a compilation of articles on persons who are physically limited in many ways but do social services of various kinds. Our founder trustee is featured as one among them and he spoke to the gathering on this occasion and received the copy of the book authored by Dr. Chandrasekar, a teaching faculty of LIBA. Deepavali, the festival of Lights was celebrated by students of all ages.

September 2017

Thirty students got together and celebrated Navaratri festival with great fervor on September 21st. The most interesting part of this celebration was that every student had made models depicting the current trends of our society. Trends like agriculture sector has turned into urban society and sanction of multi storied housing tenements on small lakes, marshes and riverbeds which has caused blocking of water flow and stagnation that leads to health hazards. Indeed great to note that students of all grades -- elementary to high school for having a good understanding of the issues plaguing the society and that being depicted in the various models created. August 2017

A busy month with annual visits to two schools for educational aid. Kalanjiyam trust (rural educational aid) was visited by 10 members of Maithri including the Founder trustee, Mr. Shreedhar. Maithri extended support for 36 students and the team had good impact as Maithri's past students spoke about their own experiences and benefits gained.

Sri Ramana Vidhyalaya students checks given for 24 students very deserving, coming from remote villages and travelling long distance to thank Maithri and Maithri volunteers, Praveena and Rajkumar for sponsoring this project for the 7th year. Maithri selects and follows the progress of these students on individual basis. A special mention of two girls who are taken care of by their grand-mother after the untimely demise of their parents. A kind gentleman who is an auto-driver brings them to school daily free of cost. Glad that the two girls are surrounded by kind and generous people.

India's Independence Day was celebrated by the students by hoisting the tri color flag with sweets and food.

Maithri conducted a dental camp at Ramana Vidhyalaya in association with Ragas Dental College and Hospitals. It was a great success with very many students, teachers and parents utilizing to have their dental checkup, corrections and advice. Maithri honored the doctors with a memento from its Founder, Trustee, Mr.Shreedhar.

July 2017

Maithri touched 25% of its total strength in paying fees by the middle of this month. Maithri thanks Jana Seva, USA for helping Maithri by forwarding donations from our individual and corporate donors like Keevat llc. that helps in sponsoring fees of school. Maithri also thanks Mr S. Nichani, UK and continued support of Mark Saqueth Foundation, Spain and Handicare International,Canada.

June 2017

Annual visit from Marc Saquet Foundation, Spain went off very well with student interaction. The foundation and Mariana are happy, satisfied and appreciated Maithri for student follow-ups and helping them in counselling at the family level. They also pointed that these involvements with students are helping them psychologically and socially. Maithri thanks Mr. Ranvir Shah for being the liaison for the past 14 years.

May 2017

Though the students are amidst their summer vacation, some senior students gathered on weekends to assist and advice the outgoing 12th grade students in choosing college courses depending on their family, financial conditions, grades or marks scored. This method helped 6 students in enrolling in college courses.

April 2017

As exams are underway the focus has been mainly on studies while as per accounting/financial year, Maithri has had another successful year with more than twenty-five lakhs spent for education and educational aids with the help of two overseas organizations (HCI Canada and Mark Saquath Foundation(Spain) and number of individual donors in India and abroad. We sincerely thank each and every donor, patron and extend our extreme gratitude. Hope the ensuing academic year will have wider and expanding developments.

March 2017

A month to prepare for all state level exams taking students, extra classes, individual attention, model question papers and mock examination atmosphere to adapt and answer with confidence.

February 2017

On 1st of Feb, Maithri was invited by "The Thursday Ladies Charity", a growing NGO from Adyar, Chennai to receive Rs 25,000 cheque for educational purposes. This kind gesture has been extended to Maithri for the second time since 1998. In 1998, the Chief Guest, Dr Vaijayanthimala Bali handed a check of Rs.70,000 to the founder trustee.

Maithri students of X and XII grade/standard, along with trustee and former students of the Trust went for an outing to Chettipuniyam, 85 kms from Chennai. Students attended a camp targeted towards increasing focus, attention and concentration in classes and during lectures. The students had a great experience of monkeys and village life. The food arrangements were made by a Maithri donor.

The subsequent Sunday Founder Trustee along with two former students met Mrs. Sulochana of Handi Care International (HCI) Canada thanked her for the support in aid and elaborated on Maithri activities. Maithri presented its' 25th year commemorative silver coin and a T-shirt with logo. Mr. Sankararaman, Secretary, Amar Seva Sangam, Ayikudy was also present.

January 2017

A very Happy New Year to one and all.

For Pongal (a festival on harvest day), Maithri students organized a fun filled celebration with dances and music. They ended the celebration with cows and calves feeding in the evening which was an enjoyable, new experience for city based students to interact with domestic cattle. On 23rd Jan, Founder trustee took part in the 11th year celebration of Sukriti Social Foundation. Along with Sukriti Founder Sowmya Simhan and differently abled children from various city based NGO organization enjoyed pleasant music and dances and distribution of calipers and tailoring machines for the needy.
