July 2021

There was an urgent demand from Kannagi Nagar (out skirts of Chennai city) welfare association for the physically challenged persons' rehabilitation program. The differently abled persons were lacking daily needs because of lack of work due to Covid-19. Covid-19 curbed all opportunities for daily wage workers especially, the physically challenged earners. Maithri joined with another NGO and provided one month of grocery and dresses to Kannagi Nagar residents.

NEET/JEE coaching classes are being conducted in Sri Saradha Vidyalaya girls HSS daily since July 2021.

June 2021

Covid-19 has created the worst crisis for everyone and specifically, for the teaching and learning processes. The year 2020 made a dramatic change in how educational classes and schooling experiences. The young people will remember this changed schooling and online experiences for the rest of their lives. A different style of teaching for the teachers. They had to adapt themselves to creative methods to keep the young children engaged and learn at the same time.

Maithri is planning to donate Oxygen concentrators to senior citizens/ old-ages homes to alleviate the severity of oxygen cylinders and hospital beds.

May 2021

Maithri started disbursing fees for the upcoming academic year in a slow and sluggish manner. The payments of school fees were made online. Many of the students did not have bank access and this Covid situation motivated them to open a bank account which, was a new experience for many. With the second wave of Covid in India, the schools had set some un-realistic fee structures and books will be provided to the students only after their school fees are paid. Maithri disbursed fees for 76 students initially who had operational bank accounts. Hope the Covid situation will change positively very soon.

A glimmer of joy and hope was felt by Maithri when, Hiran, a kindergarten boy, sent in some lovely paintings and the recognition certificate (see below). He does finger painting and these did brought in a glimmer of positivity amidst the treacherous second wave.

April 2021

The GuindyTrust has agreed to provide course materials free of charge and Maithri provide funds for other expenses.

On 23rd March, Sri Ramakrishna HSS (Main) launched free coaching classes for NEET and JEE-IIT entrance examinations for students appearing for these competitive exams for the current academic year. 52 students from the three RKM schools and 15 from other schools within the T Nagar area benefit from these classes. January/February 2021

Maithri wishes a Happy and Healthy New Year to one and all.

The year 2021 started off with continued online teaching and our help in providing a mobile phone to deserving, under-privileged students. Darshana, a second grade autistic student enjoyed the phone paying undivided attention to her online classes. The high scoring students of Maithri continued to show good progress and results. Arinna and Abhinaya graduated with a BPT degree, a four year course on physio-therapy. A press-iron (coal) was given to Mr. Murugan, whose business was closed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Our volunteers provided groceries to the needy families who are still struggling during these trying times. The mobile for Maithri students and aid in the form of their small roadside business people were dealt mainly during the months of January and February by giving irons, chairs for their sitting during small breaks for the roadside small vendors, like fruits and tender coconut sellers.
